I don't know if any of you remember my post about Heavener Runestone Park. I wrote about it last year. That One Little Thing
It has come to my attention that the state of Oklahoma is closing parks all over the state and this is one of the parks that is being marked for closure. I am heartbroken. Not only is this park beautiful and a great hiking trail but it has a great historical marker.
When you start down the trail of this park it takes you to a building. In this building they have a rock that has rune symbols carved into the stone. They encased it to protect it from the elements. It is an amazing place to be. What will happen to this rock? Will they leave it there to be vandalized by people who don't understand the historical significance?
If anyone is interested, they have started a Facebook page. Save the Runestone

OMG! I had not heard about this. This is awful. I would really hate to see Runestone Park closed because it would be vandalized. I live about an hour away and have visited it several times.
Thank you for all the info! :0)
That is so sad they are closing parks to begin with....
